Hello fellow fiber enthusiasts, my name is Kimberly. I began my serious fiber journey back in the spring of 2009. I knew how to knit from a young age, being taught by my grandmother. Little did I realize at the time that she was using only acrylic yarn. I still have hats, headbands and blankets that she made.

I knit items off and on, slowly learning that there were other fibers out there that yarn was made of. Fast forward to the mid 2000s. I was actually big into flower gardening (and some vegetable gardening) at the time. I had recently bought a book called English Cottage Gardening for American Gardeners. It’s one of the only books I’ve ever paid retail price for! In looking through that book, I came across the chapter of Corgi Cottage. That was my introduction to Tasha Tudor and I was smitten immediately!

Of all the gardens showcased in that book, that one spoke to me on a level I could not explain. I loved it!  None of her books were given to me as a child. A shame really. But I had found her now and I did online research into who this lady was. She did many things in her long life, gardening being one of her main passions. So at first, I bought her gardening book, then another, then finally her Tasha Tudor’s Heirloom Crafts book. 

For many years I had been slowly moving towards more self-sufficiency and self-reliance. I knew how to knit, so why not learn how to make the yarn, as Tasha shows in that craft book? For my 38th birthday, I gifted myself a spinning class. Luckily I found a local shop who happened to be offering classes. From that one, multi-day class, I dove into the fiber world on a serious level. 

Within a year I had my first raw fleece. In 2013 I started a Youtube channel, just for fun. The videos weren’t the best quality, but they were out there and those who watched them were giving positive feedback, so that was encouraging! 

I became more and more interested in the whole process of working with the fiber, from the skirting and washing all the way to the end product, which for me is usually the yarn. I do sometimes find the time to knit or weave an item. I must admit though, that I get the most joy out of working with the raw fibers through to the spinning. Then the yarns just sit. You will find some of them in my Etsy shop, The Natural Spinner. 

Now, in 2022, I’m in my 13th year of fiber and still loving every minute of it! My goal is to put out more Youtube content, create more blog posts and eventually build my dream studio to hold classes.
