This is a fun story!
Picture yourself walking through the vendors at a fiber festival–your eye catches a fleece laid out on wire in a booth–your knees buckle because it’s so gorgeous!
This is what happened to me at a festival in PA. It turned out to be an extremely VM-filled cria alpaca fleece but I could see beyond that. I do not remember why it was out on display but she said it wasn’t for sale because it was so dirty. She also said she’d be disposing of it because it couldn’t be processed at the mill. I knew this gorgeous cria fleece didn’t deserve to be discarded, so I made a deal with her to trade for the fleece by spinning her one skein from it.
I comb everything so VM isn’t a deal breaker for me, not even heavy VM. It has become one of my favorite fleeces ever! So far, I have only made the one skein in trade. I have much more of it to process and spin. I hope to get back to it soon.
